Take a closer “look” at John 1: 47 – 49: “Jesus saw Nathaniel coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!” Nathaniel said to Him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.“ Nathaniel answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
Two thousand years ago, there were no cell phones, no TV cameras, no intercoms or even electricity, but Jesus saw Nathaniel under the fig tree, despite the fact that Jesus was physically somewhere else. This scripture doesn’t explain it plainly, but there also had been a conversation with an exchange of thoughts between Jesus and Nathaniel under that fig tree.
Nathaniel had spiritual “high tech multimedia” openly shown to him by Jesus,
something we also need to grasp more fully today, and especially when we pray to our Lord and savior. We are never actually alone; there’s always “spiritual TV cameras” everywhere around us, and not just audio microphones, but also a unique “spiritual words and thoughts exchange network” open between us and our Lord.
That helps explain why Jesus said in Matthew 6: 3 – 4: “But when you do a
charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, “that your charitable deed may be in secret; that your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.”
This is all incredible “spiritual” multimedia, but Jesus’ underlying message to
Nathaniel was also directed to you and me right now. All of our actions, words,
and thoughts are being viewed in “full High Definition with surround sound”,
considered and acted upon lovingly, and recorded by God on His “spiritual DVR”.
God also remembers all the other information that we ourselves automatically
record, such as our feelings, tastes, smells, hot or cold, and even where you itch and scratch. The bottom line is simple, God never abandons us nor leaves us, and He is always with us regardless of what’s happening… it’s a promise! Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
